Celebrating CAFOD & 50 Years of Fast Days

On Thursday 8th July at Christ the King Church, Childwall CAFOD’s Annual Mass of Thanksgiving & 50th Anniversary of Fast Day took place. The celebrant was Fr Michael Fitzsimons who also celebrated the anniverssary of his ordination. CAFOD’s Clare Dixon (Head of Latin America and Caribbean) was the main speaker who shared her reflections on her recent trip to Latin America and among the many important issues she shared about was the vital role, place and impact of the women living there. She related these thoughts and reflections to the founders of the first Fast Days and the present work of the NBCW, UCM and CWL. Invited to attend the celebrations were the members of the NBCW, the UCW and CWL. Also present were the CAFOD Liverpool Office staff and Fr Kevin Kelly. Many of our longstanding volunteers and supporters of CAFOD Liverpool attended who are deeply engaged in the work in parishes, schools, campaigns and community work. The Musical leadership was provided and produced by ‘Harmony’

The UCM President Mrs Margaret McDonald (also on the NBCW) and many members of the UCM including some recently returned from their annual pilgrimage to Walsingham also attended. Mrs Pearl Clarke (Member of Marriage & Family life Committee) held a display stall for their recently updated booklet on Domestic Violence ‘Raising Awareness of Domestic Abuse’. There were CAFOD stalls and a time line display of the 50th Anniversary of Fast Day.

Refreshments and a celebratory 50th Anniversary cake were enjoyed by all present in the John Vianney Room.

We would like to thank Fr Grant Maddock especially for letting us use Christ the King Church once again for our Mass.
