CAFOD Christmas Carol service 2010

The annual CAFOD Carol service took place on December 16th 2010 at St Teresa’s Upholland. Over 500 people braved the cold to attend.Music was provided by St John Rigby Sixth Form College, St John Fisher High School, St Mary & St Johns Catholic Primary School and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary school. The guest speaker was Geoff O’Donoughue (CAFOD’s International Division Director) who spoke moving about some of the people he’s met whom CAFOD are helping abroad.

A special Christmas message was played  from the beneficiaries from ‘Crescer para a Paz’ – one of CAFOD’s partners in Brazil. They sang a well-known Brazilian Christmas Carol.  The song was all about loving your friends during Christmas and the carol says that we want to see you happy and not sad. It also says that love triumphs over sadness this Christmas! To find more information about the ‘Crescer para a Paz’, please visit:

After the service wine and mince pies were available in the parish hall!

A massive thank you to James Gresty, Michael Cook, David Wall & Martin Malone from St John Rigby and Candice McArdle from St John Fisher for all their hard work. Also a huge thank you to all the CAFOD volunteers who made the evening special including Pat Boyle, Catherine Greaves and Peter and Eileen Holland.
