The annual CAFOD Carol service took place last night on December 15th 2011 at St Teresa’s Upholland. Over 700 people braved the cold to attend. Music was provided by St John Rigby Sixth Form College, St John Fisher High School, St Mary & St Johns Catholic Primary School and St Teresa’s Catholic Primary school. The guest speaker was Clare Dixon (Head of CAFOD’s Latin America team) who spoke movingly about CAFOD’s work in El Salvador, particularly the village Puentecitos (the community involved in connect2: El Salvador) and some of the people who live there. During the service, the choir sang two new mesmerising pieces ‘In the Heart Where love is’ and ‘Come and See the Lord’ composed by James Gresty. After the service, there was a chance to meet local author John Patrick Kerrigan who signed copies of his new book, ‘The Shufflebottoms,’ a book about a family from Lancashire. There was also a chance to munch on some yummy mince pies provided kindly by Catherine Greaves. A mammoth thank you to everybody who helped make the night such a success and to all the parents, grandparents and family members who came to join us on the night to watch the service!
